Psychodynamic Therapy in San Jose & California.
I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults in-person in San Jose and throughout California via teletherapy, integrating principles from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). This approach focuses on helping people understand and transform longstanding emotional patterns, while also experiencing new, more self-connected ways of relating to themselves and others.
Many of the people I work with seek therapy for concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, past difficulties, and life transitions.
What is Psychodynamic Therapy?
Psychodynamic therapy is an approach to therapy that focuses on understanding how past experiences and unconscious patterns shape our present-day experiences, including our thoughts, emotions, and relationship with ourselves and others. With a multicultural lens, this focus includes consideration for one’s culture and the many contexts in which we live.
Rather than focusing only on symptom reduction, psychodynamic therapy aims to help you:
Gain clarity on your the underlying sources of distress
Make sense of internal conflicts and parts of oneself
Recognize and understand emotional and relational patterns
Make desired changes from a place of self-understanding
Over time, this can lead to more flexible, authentic, and satisfying ways of being oneself and connecting with others.
How Integrate AEDP.
My work is also informed by Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and experiential approach that emphasizes emotional processing within a authentic and supportive relationship.
In practice, this means:
Paying close attention to emotional experiences in the present
Helping you recognize and process feelings that may have previously been avoided or felt overwhelming
Fostering experiences of connection, safety, and self-compassion
Supporting self-awareness, yes, but also felt change
While psychodynamic therapy often emphasizes understanding patterns, AEDP adds a focus on making the most of transformative emotional and relational experiences.
Who This Approach Might Be Helpful For.
This type of therapy may be a good fit if:
You want to feel more connected to yourself
You feel stuck in relationship patterns you want to change
You feel anxious, want to speak openly about how you feel, and are looking for relief
You are interested in a deeper, exploratory form of therapy
You want more than coping strategies or life lessons
Your want to better understand how your past experiences influence your present life and choices
I often work with people who are thoughtful, reflective, and interested in understanding themselves more deeply.
What is Therapy Like?
Sessions are conversational but also intentional.
We may:
Explore current challenges and relationships
Discuss past experiences and consider how they connect to current experiences
Notice patterns as they emerge in real time
Attend to emotional experience as it unfolds
Process past challenges so you feel less burdened and alone with them
The pace of therapy is collaborative. Some sessions may focus more on exploring and understanding, others may focus more on emotional processing and solidifying new experiences.
In-person in San Jose & Online in California.
I offer (and enjoy) providing both in person therapy as well as teletherapy. I offer in-person therapy off the Alameda in San Jose and can work with people anywhere in California via teletherapy. I’ve seen people benefit from psychodynamic and AEDP therapy in both contexts.
